Business Support Services

Running a business is more than just delivering a great product or service – it’s about building a strong foundation for sustainable growth. At Spence Accounting, we offer a range of business support services designed to help you thrive in an ever-changing landscape. From hands-on training to choosing the right software and creating effective business plans, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

    Our Business Support Services

      • Training & Development

We provide our clients with training and development to help you meet the needs of your business. Whether it is software training on how to use it or management support and coaching to help you run your business more smoothly, we are here. You might be great at what you do, but you do need to learn how to run a business well in order to make your dreams a reality.

      • Software Solutions

Without software where would we be! We will help you choose the right accounting software for you and your business to make sure it is easy for you to keep your records. We will look at the product and pricing to ensure it meets all your needs. We love using some tools such as Dext (formerly Receipt Bank) where you can share your records with us as you go. This reduces the need for keeping paper records and ensures that we track what you are doing as you are doing business.

      • Business Planning

Who thought that we would all be activating our disaster plans in 2020 due to the COVID -19 outbreak. A business plan is not just for when you start out in business but helps you plan how you intend to continue trade in the future and helps you plan for future events. You set goals for your sales team, so why not set goals for you the business owner for you and your whole team to achieve!

            What about VAT

            • No, your turnover needs to exceed, or you know your turnover will exceed £85,000. This is over a rolling 12-month basis so it is important to keep an eye on your income.

            • You need to register for VAT within 30 days of going over or knowing you are going to go over the VAT threshold.

            • Yes, you can. It will depend on your business whether or not this is the best decision for you, please speak to our advisors or will be able to advise on the pro’s and con’s of being VAT registered.

            • Most items are rated at 20% for VAT. There are some exemptions to the rule and we would suggest speaking to one of our advisors to make sure you are charging the correct amount for your business.

            • Your VAT return has to be submitted electronically to HMRC. If you have exceeded the VAT threshold you will need to do this using software such as Quick Books or Xero.

            • You can now keep your records electronically. There are some exemptions to this like finance agreements that you will need to keep a paper copy. We do recommend that you keep copies of all receipts for purchases whether electronic or paper.

            • No, you do not have to keep your accounts using software. There are advantages to using software and as your business grows, being in good habits from the beginning will help you progress faster as you will already be well organised. If you want to talk through our software solutions one of our advisors can help you make the best decision for your business.
